Let Suit Pants Become a Powerful Tool in Your Daily Outfits
Origin
The Culotte from the mid-17th century is considered the ancestor of modern suit pants. At that time, the knee-length coat "Justaucorps", the slightly shorter "Veste", and the tight-fitting knee-breeches "Culotte" appeared on the historical stage together, forming the structure of the modern three-piece suit and many dressing habits.
The "Culotte" that emerged during the Baroque art period had three buttons on the side of the pants, and layers of decorative knots, forming a real three-dimensional effect. These pants were also named after the Count of Rhein, who liked to wear them - hence the name Count Rhein Pants. These were paired with tight long pants and complex decorations, creating the unique style of that era.

Baroque clothing was centered on men and emphasized a style of complex decorations that was almost astonishing. Compared to the development during the Renaissance period, it appeared softer and more lively. At the same time, its colorful sense of motion, due to excessive decoration, made men lack the masculinity and strength they should have, making them appear more feminine. In general, the clothing of the Baroque period reflected a noble and lofty luxury. A book once described the clothing of this period as: the era of lace, ribbons, long hair, and leather. In history, there was never a period when men were as feminine as during this time. This type of clothing gradually transitioned from complexity to simplicity, continuing until the 19th century, and became the origin of the modern suit. The "Culotte" is also recognized as the origin of suit pants.
Until the early 19th century, a type of knee-length pants and silk stockings were commonly worn for formal occasions. Later, when riding horses outdoors, people began to wear a long pair of pants over these (called "Trousers"), which became the prototype of suit pants. Originally serving as casual long pants (Trousers), they were upgraded to evening dress pants - that is, standard formal suit pants - in 1817.
Distinction
Distinction from casual pants: The difference lies in the sewing method at the edge of the pant legs. Casual pants use double stitching, with the double lines exposed. Suit pants are generally single-stitched, and the thread color is usually chosen to match the fabric, making the stitching not obviously visible. In addition, suit pants are mostly loose-fitting straight-leg pants, including a looser crotch area. The hip cutting generally does not hug the hips. The pants tend to be longer, and many styles have vertical pleats. Most back pockets of the pants are designed with buttons, and some also have flap-style back pockets, etc.
